Josea: I live in a small house with only one room. It has brick walls, aluminum on the roof and a hard packed dirt floor that I have covered with mats. I live with my children. I have electricity but must get water from the public water pump twice a day.

Hello from Josea. In my family we eat rice two times per day, for lunch and for dinner. For breakfast we always have coffee with bread or little rice cakes. For example, yesterday for breakfast we had coffee with some bread; for lunch we had rice with a bean sauce and for dinner we had rice with a vegetable sauce. I am always the one who buys the food and prepares it. The thing my family likes to eat the most is rice with fish sauce.

Hello! It's me, Josea. The illness my family often has is malaria. The climate of Ambalavao is different because here there is not a lot of forest and also because Ambalavao is in the basin of a mountain. The season I like the most is the rainy season because my business does very well. The price of dry manioc goes up because the price of rice goes up a lot. People eat a lot of manioc at the moment and this is good for me so my business does very well and I can't complain.

Hello! It's me, Rasoamampionina. I have one child who goes to school and he is still in primary. The cost of schooling goes up each year but I find that this year it is gone up a lot. I think that's normal because the price of everything goes up. Children must go to school; thus their parents must make the effort and work hard so they can attend school. It is the same for the school supplies. The children need them, so we must provide them.

Hello! It's me, Rasoamampionina. My business is going badly at the moment because someone stole my money and I must start again at zero. But it will be OK because I have a stock of charcoal. For the vacation, my children are still little and they don't know what vacation is. For Independence Day, because I lost my money I stayed at home. We did not celebrate as we normally do.

Hello! It's me, Rasoamampionina. My business continues to go well, but what I do now is going to end at the end of this month because it is the end of the harvest. Then I will return to Ambalavao to start the sale of charcoal again. For me, Independence Day is a very big celebration, because all the villagers participate. I will celebrate also because I have one week's vacation from work, and then I will start work again. But I will not spend too much money on one day.
