Namongo School Project

The devastating cyclones that hit Madagascar in early 2022 led to widespread loss of life and damage to many of the country’s school buildings. The Namongo elementary school in the district of Ambalavao was severely damaged.

In the summer of 2022, the commune of Amabalavao asked OSI to help rebuild the Namongo school in a cost-sharing project: OSI purchased the materials and the community provides the labor and planning. The project began in October 2022 and the whole community got involved!

After 9 months, the project is finished. The children are back at school with new desks, new shoes (from the Ministry of Education) and a new blackboard (from the Commune of Ambalavao). This is the power of communities working together!
